Rails Stack Upgrade Specialist
Join Recurved and Shape the Future of Fintech
Job Description
Reports To: CTO
Location: Remote (US Preferred)
We have a Rails 7.0 codebase for a FinTech App with roughly 2000 files in …/app representing roughly 500,000 lines and just under 300 models. Due to extenuating circumstances, there is no useful Rspec code. That said, the code runs with only rare crashes and is generally stable. The engine itself runs through a few key models which both compute and cache - once these work on Rails 8 the rest of the engine should be fine.
This system is a monolith with everything residing on one instance. We need to upgrade this and do some refactoring and enhancements in preparation for full commercial release. Mercifully, most of the front end is pretty modular (ViewComponent) and there isn’t a lot of esoteric stuff going on. A lot of STI and JSONB use, but nothing too shady. The requestor is the CTO who’s been through major stack upgrades and knows better than to try to do this upgrade on his own.
Full RFP will be provided during discussions. This is a contract-to-hire position and there are several follow-on sprints planned.
Requirements:
- At least 10 years in Rails development.
- Must have gone through this kind of stack upgrade before and have it “down to a science”.
- Must be able to work without Rspec back-up and either rig tests or testing code on-the-fly as needed.
- Must have experience with large code bases and be able to refactor and optimize them effectively.
- Must have experience with performance optimization and be able to identify and fix performance bottlenecks.
- Must have experience with database migrations and be able to design and implement them effectively.
- Must have experience with database indexing and be able to design and implement them effectively.
- Must have experience with best practices for configurations and Zeitwerk loading.
- Must have experience with ViewComponent and Hotwire.
